Community officials and reps in Port Talbot

Community officials were in Port Talbot today to meet with local union reps and Tata officials.

Community General Secretary Roy Rickhuss, Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid, and National Secretary Alun Davies also visited our Port Talbot Support Centre in Aberafan Shopping Centre, which continues to provide support, guidance and training services to the community in Port Talbot.

Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:

“We held constructive conversations with Tata today, raising our members’ concerns around the future of the plant and discussing the importance of growing the works and wider steel industry across South Wales back up to strength. These conversations will continue over the weeks and months ahead.

“There was also an opportunity for officials and local reps to meet with the excellent team at our support centre in Port Talbot. There was agreement from all our reps that we will continue to work together to make the centre a continued success going forward, supporting the community through a difficult time of transition.”
