Alan Coombs

Seat held: Steel and metals sector representative

Alan has worked for Tata Steel in Port Talbot for over 35 years, and has been a member of our union all his working life. He’s served as an official for his local branch and as a health and safety rep for the past seventeen years. Alan is the elected Chairman of the multi-union committee in Port Talbot steelworks and is heavily committed to campaigning for carers’ rights.  He’s a married man with three children and still finds time to make noise (and music) in a punk band.

Alan has been a member of our National Executive for many years. He was elected by his colleagues to serve as our President for 2015.

Alan recently recorded a short living testimony about his time in the steelworks and Port Talbot for a research project on securing a future for a green UK steel industry. You can listen to it here.
