The vibrant and active Port Talbot Retired Members Branch recently held another successful social day.
With the sun shining at Port Talbot Town Cricket Club, retired members, family and friends gathered for an annual day of socialising, fun, refreshments and information. The local Bulldogs Boxing Club put on a range of activities for the kids, while popular duo Ian and Mandy Pugh handed out free burgers and hotdogs from their van. Community’s Cardiff office and Watkins and Gunn Solicitors were also on hand to provide advice and information.
This year the Retired Members Branch invited Prostate Cymru to the event. 3 local speakers who either have or have had prostate cancer were able to share their stories and give help and support to members. Branch stalwarts John Tetsill and Sammy Jenkins presented the guests a £100 donation to Prostate Cymru from branch funds.
The Members Social Day was another great example of the benefits of joining a retired members branch.
John Tetsill, from the Port Talbot Retired Members Branch, said:
“There are real benefits to being in a retired members’ branch, not just in terms of the practical, legal and professional help that remain available to you as a union member, but for the social network it offers. It’s an opportunity to keep in touch with former colleagues and keep the comraderie of your working life going strong – all for less than the cost of a pint each month! I’d encourage others to get involved: it’s a great example of Community in the community.”
