Helen Osgood Director of Operations at Community Union Said:
“Community Union welcomes the Government’s announcement that free school meal entitlement will be available for all children in households on Universal Credit. Many children across our country arrive at school hungry, and this has been a persistent issue that was completely ignored by the previous Conservative Government.
“Food is vital for children’s health, development, and learning. Child poverty and food insecurity can prevent young people from reaching their full potential. The Government’s announcement today will ensure that over half a million children receive a free nutritious meal every school day. This is a key step in tackling inequality and shows the difference that a Labour Government can make.”
