Yesterday, as part of World Mental Health Day, we held an event streamed across all Tata Steel UK’s sites dedicated to those who are Tata’s Mental Health First Aiders.
The event, organised in conjunction with Tata, showed the value we place in every person who has come forward for such an important role. We had guest speakers from our retirement branch, as well as some of our reps and regional staff in attendance.
This marks the next step in our work to support our members mental health at work and at home. Community first organised a MHFA course for our Tata members in Wales in September 2018. Since then, 232 members have gone through the course funded through Wales Union Learning Fund projects.
The event ended with certificates presented to our newest trained Mental Health First Aiders by Gary Keogh, Vice Chair of the Multi-Union Committee.
In the afternoon, each site did their own activities with many having MHFA and reps walking the plant to increase their visibility for the workforce to know who they are, raising awareness and breaking the stigma.
Community is here to support our members, and ensure that everybody has the opportunity to succeed. We have long been invested in supporting our reps, to make sure they have the knowledge and skills to support our members suffering with mental ill health and create better workplaces.
